Merry Christmas! Hanukkah Sameach! Wishing You a Blessed Kwanzaa! Feliz Navidad! Joyeux Noel~~ Happy Chinese New Year~~ Happy Diwali
Are you ready for the Busiest, most Blessed, exhausting, and emotional time of the year? Holiday Giving, No matter where you were raised, or what traditions you were raised with this seems to be one time of year where we are always preparing, sewing, cooking, building, wrapping, and gluing together things to share with others.
As a Child
As a child my best friend Charlie and I would climb the trees in our neighborhood and pull down Mistletoe. We would then put them in a big paper bag and go door to door and sell them for 10 cents a bunch. No one told me until years later they were poisonous, but we knew that was a way we could make a dollar each for Christmas money. We were very happy with the extra that was brought in. As time went by we would come up with ways to earn a bit more and a little safer such as collecting Soda Pop bottles. I still think collecting and selling Mistletoe was the most fun. Now I have to get ready for the grownup gift planning. I wonder if anyone wants some Mistletoe?
Make a List and Check it twice
Who is on your list? What would they enjoy and appreciate receiving from you? What traditions do you need to know? Many of us Have Family and friends from cultures different from our own. Knowing how to make a gift list will help you stay on track, address cultural differences you are not that familiar with, and be on Budget.
Things I Have Learned Through the Years
I have learned that in the Thai culture to avoid wrapping presents in green, black or blue as these colors represent funerals. Through research I have also become aware that shoes and black clothes may not be acceptable. In the Phillipines gifts that should not be given to those you love are shoes, mirrors, Perfume, Clocks and Pictures of deceased people. Many people and Many cultures are part of this melting pot and it is difficult to know. I have learned it is better to do some research or visit with a person close to the gift receiver in order not to embarrass someone.
Make a List
I like to have a Name and the amount I can spend on this person. How many gifts do I need for them? What interests/ hobbies do they have? Size needed? Allergies (NO Strawberries or smelly things for Uncle James) or strong dislikes that must be taken into consideration. What things have they hinted for? Does this person need stocking Stuffers? Can it be a family gift?
Now you have a list: You can Shop for Unique Holiday Giving!
Dave and Becky ~ travel~ family Gift~ WINE! would be good. It would fit in the motorcycle bag for a run to a Rally. If they are taking the Motorhome and pulling the Bike they will have room for more to share with friends they have not seen since the last Rally. Becky might even want a Sholdit for her things and hair on the bike, it should fit well under her helmet. Something to cover up Helmet hair.
Crystal and Marsha both busy nurses on the go need a unique scarf with a built-in clutch that could be just the thing. It would give Marsha a place to put valuables while leaving her hands free to haul equipment in and out of patients’ homes.
My sister and her daughter Ann are always headed down the road to an Intown Cowboys Game. I think a gift certificate for some Lady’s Game Wear would make a welcome gift to add to their trip to the Stadium.
All the Nephews, three families of boys? A nutritious snack like a good Protein popcorn. To top it off throw in some Movie Tickets to make a really exciting stocking. Mom and Dad need HELP with the grocery budget so how about a Gift certificate for some Neutrient Rich Beef? Now that family and friends are taken care of have I forgotten anyone?
Did I Forget a Unique Holiday Giving?
Gag or hidden Treasure for the Office Party? We could try a a Lady Bug to vacume up all the crumbs on the tablecleaner . Now I have seen it all for those with that kind of sense of humor a Sneak a Squeek to make the whole party smell better . It helps man or beast this those kind of oderous issues. Now wrap it all up. Finally, everyone is covered so now I can sit back and enjoy some of those Kudo Snacks and a glass of White Wine. Maybe a soaking bath with candles and Bubbles.
