Travel For Less

Travel for less is my way to go when I travel. I like to drive where I can go down the dirt roads. Take my family where I want to see the old and the new of an area. I want to see the cemetery out in the field where the County Court House used to stand, where they had to post guards during the trials so that the Comanche would not sneak up the creek and steal the jury’s horses. I want to take my family and sink it into the local culture and be able to buy the Shrimp off the boat. Go and see and hear the quiet of the West Virginia hills and Check out the lights of Marfa in West Texas.

Good Memories

I remember many years ago camping off the side of the road in New Mexico. Our loaded Toyota Corolla could not make the summit campground with everything I was asking it to carry. We pulled down a dirt road and set up camp. It was raining so I cut a head Hole and 2 arm holds in trash bags and let my Stepchildren run through the forest (close to Camp) in the gentle Continuous Mist. We sat up tarps over the table, established a bathroom, and set up a shower. The tent was put up and our campsite was set up.

We had a blast all weekend. It was just us and we just adapted to what we had. That was the point we were together and having fun.

Saving while Traveling

I have a picture of me sticking my toe in the Atlantic Ocean. We went by too many historic sites to mention. To say nothing of the beauty of the roadside from the Mississippi River to West Virginia. The Blue Ridge Mountains are really BLUE!

I recently went on a road trip from Texas to Virginia and back. We kept every receipt, I kept notes in a journal not to mention we traveled 4,443 miles. Additionally, we tried to make this as cost-efficient as possible. Two retired people and my disabled daughter were able to go to see family and hit a few bucket list items I have always wanted to do.

Bucket List Things to See

As we traveled across the Southern part of the US We were able to see many unforgettable Sights. Some that stood out were:

  • The world’s largest Cider Rocking Chair in Lipan, Texas is right on Highway 281 South. Great Place to get out and stretch and have some smoked BarB-Q at Natty Flatt’s. Then head on down the road.
  • We got lost, but no problem, because we found the Koffee Cup in Hico, Texas for one of the biggest menus of Pies I have seen in a while. To many choices, everyone orders something different and Shares!
  • Shreveport, rest for the night and cross the Mighty Mississippi River. The amount of Water is a marvel to a girl from Texas.
  • Continue onward to Virginia. Found another great Pie house in Farmville, Virginia named, Merks, It has Good food and GREAT Pie! And yes, the Name of the town is Farmville!
  • Onward to Ft. Lee and getting to visit family.
  • In this area we went to an Arby’s with fireplaces, tottum Poles, and Cannoes it was a beautiful building that had been repurposed from an old Will Rodgers Hamburger Restaurant. A must-see if in the area.
  • What-A-Burger is alive in Virginia but is a different Company without the Orange Stripped Roof. Good Burgers!
  • The mountains and Valleys and Trees made me appreciate what has been given to us. The Shannondoah Valley made me think of our early History I am amazed at the site of what our families traveled through on foot to establish this country.
  • I saw the Beach in Virginia and stuck my toes in the water. I have made my way around the US and Hit the beach on each side!
